Good afternoon, folks. Just sitting here at a Flying J on the border of Illinois and Wisconsin taking a break. To bring you up to date on our travels, let me start with yesterday, the day we left for Alaska.
After months of planning and loading the motorhome, we were on our way by 11:00 am Sunday. About an hour on the road, Barb realized she had forgotten our million dollars of petty cash we normally carry on these long trips. Since it was Sunday, we could not get in touch with an armored truck to deliver the cash to us, so Sue, Marc, Annie and Gini graciously and thankfully drove an hour to meet us at the rest stop about 70 miles from home. After about an hour of transferring the cash and a bit of lunch, we said farewell one more time and were again on our way. (To be fair to Barb, I had also forgotten a couple little things, which we will replace as soon as we get to a WalMart and start spending our petty cash ;))
We later stopped in Buckhorn to weigh the rig, which was packed with food and clothes like never before. I was pleasantly surprised to find we (the motorhome, that is) were comfortably under the gross weight limits.
We continued on thru to Ohio and stopped at the Erie Island Travel Plaza on I80, the Ohio turnpike, for the night. (Pic to follow)
This morning, we got on the road by 6:15 am, and after hours on some of the worst stretches of I80 in Indiana and Illinois and about $55 of tolls, we're taking a break for a couple hours.
See you later,
Ron & Barb

I guess they really salt RVs for tolls, eh? Have fun, drive safe!
