Hello again. It's been a busy and fun couple of days since we last posted.
May 19: After leaving Wisconsin, we crossed into Minnesota and spent a few hours at the MALL OF AMERICA The kids (and the ladies, of course;))would love it.....500+ shops and an amusement park with coasters, ferris wheel, and much more in the center of it. We had a great lunch at 'Kokomo's', a Polynesian style restaurant with lots of atmosphere.
After leaving the mall, we crossed Minnesota and ended up in Fargo, ND at our favorite campground chain....Walmart. We certainly don't stay there because it's cheap, (cost us over $200 at two WalMarts so far) but because it is convenient. Total miles for the day, 391.
May 20: Woke up to more sunshine after a good nights sleep. (Forgot to mention, the weather so far has been great.) Left Fargo around 8:00 am and headed west taking in the scenery. One word to describe it.....FLAT, as far as the eye can see and the road straight as an arrow. Thought it would be boring till the wind picked up and tried to blow us off the road as well as slow us down. Fought the wind all the way to the 'Enchanted Highway', where we took a side trip. The Enchanted Highway is so named because of a local metal artist who makes the worlds largest metal sculptures and scattered them along a 32 mile stretch of the highway. Very unique and worth the side trip.
After getting back on I94, Barb reminded me of the THEODORE ROOSEVELT NATIONAL PARK just a short drive up I94. There are two 'units' to the park, and we decided to take the North unit. What a surprise , after a 50 mile drive, to find ourselves surrounded by badlands, similar to the South Dakota badlands, but different colors. We camped in the park (only $5....much cheaper than WalMarts) and toured the park till dusk. Besides beautiful natural rock sculpture, we also saw MANY bison roaming the park. Unfortunately, part of the loop road was washed out and closed and we were not able to see all of the park.
After a quiet and dark stay overnight we were on our way this morning, which brings us up to date. Pictures to follow shortly.
You probably won't be hearing from us for the next few days, cause wifi is hard to come by out here. Till the next time, stay safe.
