Hatcher Pass

Yesterday, Friday, we took a drive up Hatcher Pass. It was a partly cloudy day and temps in the mid 60's. Here are a few pics from our drive.

This is a fast running river, the Susitna, that runs through Hatcher.

And these are different mountains than we had been seeing. Notice they are covered in vegetation. Also there are trees here we had not seen for a long time. I'm guessing, but they appear to be ash and shagbark oak, a welcome change to the spruce and aspen.

At this point, Hatcher Pass road turns to dirt and continues over the mountains to the town of Willow. But, as you can see, it was closed and we had to turn around and go back.

All in all, it was a nice ride and not too long.

Before I forget their names, we've met some very nice people along the way.
We first met Fred and Gwen fron Texas at a scenic overlook in BC and several days later met up with them again in Tok at the Sourdough Campground.

We met Ron and Earlene from California at the border crossing on the Top of the World Highway and camped beside them at Teklanika in Denali a week later.

We sat by Charlie and Eileen from South Carolina on the tour bus and they were our 'tour guides', since the driver was not a talker.

All fine folks we are happy to call friends. Hope our paths cross again soon.
