Another beautiful day here in the frozen north. Sunny and cool.
We toured Dawson City most of the day and found it very interesting. It looks like it probably did in the late 1800's....a wild west sort of town. Twenty five original buildings still stand and the new ones, by ordinance, must look authentic for that time period. The streets are dirt and the sidewalks are wooden.
Tonight we're headed for a can-can show at Diamond Tooth Gerties and to try our luck at Canada's oldest gambling hall. Wish us luck.
Grandkids Contest update: Mandy won the 'guess the pie' contest with a correct guess of 'bumbleberry pie'
The 'name the cat' contest is still open, but Samantha is getting close.
I've had complaints from a few adults (can you believe it!) that they were not included in the contests. So I decided to start an 'adults only' contest.
Here it is: Who was the real life character that the 'Sgt Preston of the Yukon' show was based on? Winner will get some stupid souvenier when we get home.
That's it for now. Must get ready to go to the show. Will post a few pics tomorrow.
Till then, take care, have fun and be safe.

OK - After an exhaustive internet search - this is what I came up with... Although I could not find exactly who the shoe character was based on, I did findout that it first began as a radio show called "Challenge of the YUkon" created by George W. Trundle (also did The Lone Ranger and The Green Hornet) and Fran Striker. The most famous Mounties, which I'm guessing one of them is the inspiration for Sgt. Preston, include Sam Steele, James Walsh and James Macloed. There was also a mention of a Brace Beemer, but not sure who that is.

I thought everyone had forgotten about the adults only contest, but Sue didn't and got the right answer. It was Sam Steele who tried to cleanup Dawson City during and after the gold rush days. CONGRATS SUE!!! A special gift awaits you. Oh, by the way, you have to pick it up in person by the end of the week.;);)
